Seven Champions Musicians

The Seven Champions have developed their own musical tradition to include a mix of folk, jazz and popular tunes and songs.

The dancers are normally accompanied by a single musician or singer, though there is usually a team of musicians at each event taking turns to sing or play. Singers or musicians join forces for a dance if there is a harmony, or a build-up during the piece. Amplification is used in very busy festival situations.

Singers of all voice types are welcome. Instruments currently include recorders, whistles and melodeons but all portable instruments will work. However, the Seven Champions do not use any kind of drum because they prefer the distinctive sound of their hobnail boots on the ground.
